چکیده

Doped piezoceramic lead zircanate titanate has been characterized in the frequency range of 20–60 MHz using ultrasonic spectroscopy. Theoretical analyses were performed for the reflection and refraction of acoustic waves at the interface of water-piezoelectric ceramic. The incident directions of the wave were chosen to be appropriate for ultrasonic spectroscopy measurements. Shear wave spectrum was obtained through mode conversion using a pair of longitudinal transducers submerged in water. The phase velocity shows linear dependence on frequency while the attenuation may be described by a second order polynomial of frequency in the frequency range investigated. The Kramers–Kronig relation between ultrasonic phase velocity and attenuation was compared to measured results. © 1999 American Institute of Physics. @S0021-8979~99!00412-0#

Cylindrical Micro Ultrasonic Motor Utilizing Bulk Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT)

Ultrasonic motors are expected to be used as microactuators because of their high torque, low speed and simple construction. We have already reported cylindrical-shaped micro ultrasonic motors which utilized a lead zirconate titanate (PZT) thin film. In this paper, we discuss a micro ultrasonic motor composed of bulk PZT. The stator transducer had dimensions of 2.4 mm in diameter and 10 mm leng...

High Temperature Integrated and Flexible Ultrasonic Transducers for NDT

Integrated (IUTs) and flexible ultrasonic transducers (FUTs) are presented for NDT at high temperatures. These transducers are made of sol-gel sprayed piezoelectric thick (> 40μm) ceramic films. The ceramic materials are lead-zirconate-titanate, bismuth titanate and lithium niobate which are for thickness measurement up to 150°C, 400°C and 800°C, respectively. The IUT can be also deposited onto...

In Situ Monitoring of Cauterization with a Biopsy Needle Using Impedance Characteristics of Embedded Piezothermal Elements

This paper presents a method for monitoring biological tissue cauterization using the variation in the electromechanical impedance characteristics of the piezothermal heating elements used for tissue ablation. Piezoelectric ultrasonic heaters microfabricated from lead zirconate titanate (PZT) with 200 μm diameter and 100 μm thickness are embedded in a 20-gauge biopsy needle. A modified Butterwo...

Nonlinear properties of lead zirconate–titanate piezoceramics

Nonlinear properties of lead zirconate-titanate ~PZT! piezoceramics are investigated using ultrasonic second harmonic generation technique. When a sinusoidal ultrasonic wave of frequency v0 is sent into a nonlinear material, the second harmonic wave with frequency 2v0 is generated. Through measuring the absolute amplitude of the fundamental (v0) and of the second harmonic (2v0) waves, the ultra...

Microheaters based on ultrasonic actuation of piezoceramic elements

This paper describes the use of micromachined lead zirconate titanate (PZT) piezoceramic elements for heat generation by ultrasonic energy dissipated within the elements and surrounding media. Simulations based on three-dimensional finite-element models suggest that circular disk-shaped elements provide superior steady-state temperature rise for a given cross-sectional area, volume of the PZT e...
